                                                   EDUC 6165 - Effective Communication

I have had the honor of listening to my uncle who is a Legend in his own rights as a ministry and have travel around the world.  My uncle has impact many lives and still is doing so currently. He has supported me and encourages me in my walk with the Lord this is an awesome man of god. He has a unique way to convey his message. He has an awesome way of inspiring his congregation. What I like about my uncle before he speaks he has a great sense of humor to grasp his congregation attention. One thing I admire about my uncle is when he is communicating with his congregation he have very good eye contact regardless of how small the crow is and how large. When my uncle prepared for his message he uses a note pad to keep him on track as he minister to his congregation. I noticed when my uncle speak he have a very strong firm voice to get the attention of anyone who is present in his congregation. I also was able to witness and feel his love and sincerity that he had for the people in his congregation. I also notice when my uncle was preaching he had such a joy on his face that it manifested through him as he was preaching.

I would love to be able to travel around the world to impact lives like my uncle did. My uncle spoke at many churches throughout his life. When my uncle is ministering the word of God he has the ability to keep the people in his congregation focus and keep their attention in a unique way. His patience and kindness helps him be a great effective communicator and influence. In his message you can tell he preach and walk in what he believes in the way he convey his message and he love sharing his message with visitors and friends. I love how to learn from my uncle an how to be an effective communicator when I am ministering to others. I feel this will be very rewarding as I continue my journey.

                                                          Blog: Professional Hopes and Goals

As an educator one of my desire is to see all children will be respected regardless of his/her color, race, religion, gender and belief.  I would like to see bias be dispelled from our early childhood program so we can work together and do what best for each child that we come across on a daily basis. I would like to see educators must explore historical and contemporary family struggles and be able to respect each child and their families regardless of his/her back ground. Harvard Family Research Project. (2003).
The one goal that I would like to see as an educator is to be the best role model in front of children and to be able to embrace all culture who I encounter on a day to day basis. I would like to see all culture come together and work together in unity and respect each other for who they are regardless of race, color, gender and religion. According to Dr.Sue he stated in the video that we have to always be mindful of how we approach others from different culture.

A brief note of thanks to your colleagues – I like to thank all of my colleagues who have encouraged me and supported me over these last 8 weeks. You shared vital information and inspiring posts and feedback which helped make this class exciting.  I would also like to thank you for your constructive feedback which will help me to continue my journey in education. I wish you all the best of luck as you move forward to your next class. I pray that all you have a bless successful year as you continue your journey in early childhood. Have a great week!

Welcoming Families From Around the World
6164 -1

Ever since, I was a young girl I always wanted to learn about the country Japan and visit that country one of these days. As an educator there are several ways, I would prepare myself for culturally responsive towards families from the. After during a little research, I have discover about the country of Japan and the ways, I will prepare myself as an educator for culturally responsively by, First, I can prepare myself to be culturally responsive towards this family and make sure I learn the appropriate when greeting these parents. Secondly, I can prepare myself to be culturally responsive towards the family by ask parent open – ended questions. For example, is there a particular way that your child learns would your share it with me so I can better help your child to succeed?  Thirdly, I can prepare myself to be culturally responsive by learning different teaching strategies to help each child succeed and reach his/her full potential. Fourthly, I can prepare myself to be culturally responsive by learning more about the family beliefs, traditions and values. As an educator, I will make sure that I will understand the culture values and traditions in ways families celebrate holidays. Last, but not least, I can prepare myself as an educator to be culturally responsive towards this family by having a potluck  once a month focusing on different cultures. This will help children to learn about different culture’s food, belief and values. Visiting library and communities that participate in the cultural life of children and family and I will also read book about hat country to better understand the child and family.
A brief statement describing in what ways you hope that these preparations will benefit both you and the family. I feel this preparation will benefit me by teaching me about different cultures.  In turn, I will be able to acknowledge multiple equity pedagogies in order to permeate justice and equity for all. According to Hyland (2010) these preparations will benefit educator, children and families by assisting parents grow the vital skills essential to engage children in discussions concerning injustice. According to Hyland (2010) educators and parents can assistance children discard stereotypes that marginalize specific communities that are strictly based on gender, ethnicity, culture, and sexual orientation. I will also make sure I am showing respect to the families always.

The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression

I am an African American woman and have experienced much prejudice in the work place. I felt that other color was giving more opportunity at my preschool jobs. The  director I will call her Ms. Tosa will always let other teacher take longer break and time off from work , but when it came to me I will always get the running around or she will say “ I not able to let you have this week off because , I need you to cover a certain class this week” but she would never ask the other teachers. I remember one time I was a 1 second over and she went crazy. But when other teacher was late or took a longer break nothing would be said.. Many times, Caucasians was allowed to take time off with ,but when it came to me there was always an excuse why I was not able to take days off. It was very irritating.  My director did not have any problem changing the schedule around when it came to certain teachers, but when it came to me I would always get the attitude.

This  made it really hard for me to perform my job duties never neglecting or abuse or rude to parent and children but had a hard time trust the team around me because they would allow people  of other color to take off, but when it came to me I am a black person it would always be a problem. A couple of times, I felt like leaving. but I really enjoyed working with the co - teacher in my class and of course the children and families.  When I would decide to take time off, I would put my notice in one week before and Ms.Tosa said she did not have anyone to fill my spot, but this one particular teacher   from another class I will call her Rosa put in her request the same time, I did and was approved.  I felt like just because, I was the only black there and I felt like I was being discrating against due to my color.  According to Dr. Sue I feel we should all be respected and treated fairly in the work environment regardless of race, belief, religion or gender. On one hand, I was upset and on the other hand, I was glad it happened to me so I could learn  from this situation on how  I can make sure when I get my child care center , I will not treat my  staff that way. I will make sure I am making every race feel comfortable

I became very angry on several occasions and on top of that I had three miscarriages I was dealing with at the time of going through all these issues at work and that did not. I felt like I was not being appreciated and having to make special arrangements to go to my doctor appointments. These issues at work did not make me feel any better, but I learned how to manage the abuse. I felt I was not important, embarrassed and shameful. As a floater, I felt that I always had to pick up the slack.  I felt like I was really being taking advantage of.  I will never treat anyone this way and the director needs to make sure that she is being fair across the board.
