                                                         Sharing Web Resources

The news that I found interesting this week on the World Vision Organization website is that the World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and communities worldwide.  The World Vision Organization’s vision statement is: “Our vision for every child, life in all its fullness. Our prayer for every heart, they will to make it so.” World Vision aims to address the underlying causes of poverty by improving the well-being of children in sustainable ways alongside donors and the communities who have the “will” to achieve this vision.  Their goal is to help children and families reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. I decided to write on this segment because this was the concentration of our thoughts for this week’s discussion. As an educator, I work carefully with children and families who are of low-income and immersed in poverty. I feel that I can better support each child and their families to help them feel secure in their child’s education due to the courses I am taking, such as this one. I am so glad we are able to share web resources through this course because it allows me to better help my students and families.  Sometimes you have no idea how this information will impact these children and their families. Poverty is complex.  With help from organizations like orld Vision Org and our continued dedication to the best quality education, we can help these children who are less fortune.

The CEO World Vision Organization has so much passion for what he does and has done a great job in supporting these children and families. The former CEO for Parker Brothers Games and Lenox and Rich holds a B.A. in neurology from Cornell University and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Following a sense of God’s call on his life, he resigned from Lenox in 1998 to become World Vision’s U.S. president. Rich, driven by his passion to raise awareness and support for poverty and justice issues, authored The Hole in Our Gospel and a new book called Unfinished. I thought this was a very thought provoking. Not only does he have this undeniable passion for what he does, his wife does as well.  Rich and his wife, Renee, live in Bellevue, Washington, and they have supported World Vision since 1984. They have five children of their own plus millions more around the world, when you consider all the lives they touch through their work. They work in nearly 100 countries and offer sponsorship in more than 50 of those countries.

The goal of World Vision sponsorship is to help a sponsored child and his or her community to break the cycle of poverty so they can step into the future with hope. Throughout their approximately 15-year involvement in communities, they manage, monitor, and evaluate progress toward the community’s goals.  This is a wonderful organization because it allows you to have an impact on a specific child (ren). A sponsorship may last several years, depending on the needs of the sponsored child.
When these goals are met, World Vision can move on to other communities to serve other children in need of help.

I have gained new insight from the website and have learned vital information on how WVO impacts families around the world. I find it amazing that nearly 100 countries offer sponsorship.  In more than 50 of those countries, WVO has helped children and their families.  Every dollar donated becomes $1.15 in impact to children and communities worldwide. I have also learned a new way to build a positive relationship with a sponsored child. In order to help a child and their family, you can email your child at worldvision.org or find out there how to send letters and cards if you choose to.

Here are real people sharing real stories of how this amazing organization has helped transform their child’s life:

MOTHER OF SPONSORED CHILD

“I felt stressed, hopeless, and worried about my two sons' education before World Vision came to my life. […] The piglet gives me hope; I can continue to send my boy to school. I think I can live and overcome all the struggles.

FAMILY THAT SPONSORS 5 CHILDREN

"World Vision’s program in particular is not  just helping the child, but it’s really helping the entire community become sustainable. And I think that's wonderful.”

SPONSOR OF A CHILD

Visited her sponsored child in Senegal.

"Often people ask me, 'How do you know there's a real child there?' Well that's easy for me to answer. I've met her!"

I was so delighted with this organization it has compelled me to join.  I am so happy to be a member of this great organization now and will be keeping you guys informed with my first donation helping these children and their families. Have a great week if you would like to learn more about this organization feel free to visit the website www.worldvision.org

Getting to Know Your International Contacts—Part 1
Temika McCann

I had not being able to contact or receive any respond from anyone as of now, I will contact them on Tuesday and give you the update it is a little difficult to connect like you would like to, but I know I will have a chance to get some more information next week. I live in Los Angles, Ca Early Childhood professional in Sarah's Nest - Creche & Preschool.  Their purpose is a vibrant, warm and caring learning environment providing high quality for all children to feel secure.
Poverty in Lagos, Nigeria remains significant Nigeria has one of the world's highest economic growth rates averaging high level of poverty, with 63% living on below $1 daily, implying a decline in equity. Poverty in Nigeria can be also caused by the political instability of the country. However, these programs have largely failed to overcome the three reasons for this persistent poverty: instability , and  ethic conflict . Poverty in Nigeria is parallel to the USA. These children experience and fronting growing up in poverty and this is vital. The Nigerian government’s untended approach to its poor, who account for at least 70 percent of the population, was again on full display last Saturday at Bahia East, where even more demolition — another 40,000 live there — is now threatened. When children are expose to poverty they have so much to deal with. For example, children have to collect wood in a hot place just to make ends meet  lack of food, shelter and children may not have very much self-esteem.  It can have a huge toll on the family because there family have to make sure they can meet the need of their children some have two have two jobs just to maintain a roof over their head and some not able to work a second  job. Children are facing poverty it can also affect their grades. That why as educators we have to make sure we are treating every child with respect and compassion because we may be the only peace that they may have in their life. Nigeria has a welfare system to support families. Overall poverty remain prevalent in  Lagos ,Nigeria.
Have a bless week

WEB SHARING
The organization was UNICEF was created by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been In 1953, UNICEF became a permanent part of the United Nations System and its name was shortened from the original United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund but it has continued to be known by the popular acronym based on this previous title
I also discovered that this organization is also known as The United Nations Children's Fund which is an United Nations Program headquartered in New York City that provides long-term humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. This organization is a member of the United Nations Development Group and part of its CEO Kaufman, M Conflict resolution- finding better ways to help these families and children. They also require the students to bring their parents to school to talk about poor behavior. Organization help assist parents to create child-friendly homes, learn that school culture can both promote or it can evolve with parent interaction..

UNICEF organization's resources; private groups and some 6 million individuals contribute the rest through the National Committees. It is estimated that 91.8% of their revenue is distributed to Program Services UNICEF's programs emphasize developing community-level services to promote the health and well-being of children. The organization does have to meet the need of these children and their families’ emergency shelters, educational supplies, among others and approves programs and oversees administrative and financial plans. This is the link if you would like to learn a little more about this organization.   Website:http://www.unicef. org.

Identify one current issue/trend from the newsletter and/or from the website that caught your attention. What caught my eye is how this organization helps these children, and has provided emergency extra food and supplies and training for medical and health staff.  This organization has dealt with 140 million children in developing countries who did not attend primary school, about 60 percent were girls. Some 250 million children aged 5 to 14 work, half of them full time This is a huge concern and very difficult for me to imagine that children deal with such unfair circumstances around the world. I would like to share some more vital information that was shocking to me and a couple of issues The organization also focuses on helping to return former child soldiers (to their homes and reintegrate them into society through counseling and education. I have learned so much and was shocked with the information I have gained from reading this website. I am thankful that I have never experienced anything like this nor have I experienced this in US. This organization has try to help families and children in anyway that they can by supporting diversity and Conflict resolution- finding better ways to help these families and children
Share if there was anything else you learned from studying these resources related to the topic of this week.  I also learned that the UNICEF is also diversity focused which is one of the topics we discussed in our lesson for this week.  In developing countries, almost a third of children under age five are malnourished.  I myself thought that this was very informative an dynamic Approximately 250,000 children under age 18 served in armed conflicts in 1995 and 1996. 300,000 children have been killed or maimed by landmines since 1975.If you would like to learn more about this web site feel free to visit the link that I have provided for you. Overall this was interesting for me and very informative.
