Getting
to Know Your International Contacts—Part 1
Temika McCann
I had not being able to contact or receive any
respond from anyone as of now, I will contact them on Tuesday and give you the
update it is a little difficult to connect like you would like to, but I know I
will have a chance to get some more information next week. I live in Los Angles,
Ca Early Childhood professional in Sarah's
Nest - Creche & Preschool. Their purpose is a vibrant, warm and caring learning environment
providing high quality for all children to feel secure.
Poverty in Lagos, Nigeria
remains significant Nigeria has one of the world's highest economic growth
rates averaging high level of poverty, with 63% living on below $1 daily,
implying a decline in equity. Poverty in Nigeria can be also caused by the
political instability of the country. However, these programs have largely
failed to overcome the three
reasons for this persistent poverty: instability , and ethic conflict .
Poverty
in Nigeria is parallel to the USA. These children experience and fronting growing
up in poverty and this is vital. The
Nigerian government’s untended approach to its poor, who account for at least
70 percent of the population, was again on full display last Saturday at Bahia
East, where even more demolition — another 40,000 live there — is now
threatened. When children are expose to poverty they have so much
to deal with. For example, children have to collect wood in a hot place just to
make ends meet lack of food, shelter and
children may not have very much self-esteem.
It can have a huge toll on the family because there family have to make
sure they can meet the need of their children some have two have two jobs just
to maintain a roof over their head and some not able to work a second job. Children are facing poverty it can also
affect their grades. That why as educators we have to make sure we are treating
every child with respect and compassion because we may be the only peace that they
may have in their life. Nigeria has a welfare system to support families. Overall
poverty remain prevalent in Lagos ,Nigeria.
Have a bless week

Wow Temika -
ReplyDeleteYour most had so much information to soak up and really take in. It saddens me to know what children are going through in other countries and how war is causing a lot of families and children to be homeless or pushed into poverty due to no fault of their own. In my most I viewed a video where children were allowed to talk about how they felt being forced to sneak out of Syria and into Lebanon. It hurt my heart to hear that they liked were they were living because they felt safe - but the conditions took them into poverty. To know children are happy with very little food, home-made shelters, some not being able to attend school, and one blanket to cover the entire family at night says just how bad war can be on children. They find the good in the very little.
I look forward to hearing what you may learn from your contact.
Thanks for sharing!

Tamika thanks for sharing you experience and what you found out about ECE in Nigeria It is truly a serious situation over in Africa. Hopefully one day it won't be in turmoil.
ReplyDeleteTamika,
ReplyDeleteIt is incredible to know that there are so many countries such as Nigeria that create environments that constantly expose children to such horrible experiences. Is there a specific reason why you chose to look more closely at Nigerian children's poverty? With such a long history of violence and poverty, I hope that situations will begin to improve in the near future. Have you come across any organizations that have been successful at catalyzing positive changes?
Tamika, your information was very informative and I believe most countries have such high poverty because of the economic status of the country. It saddens me to know that children are deprived of getting an education because they have to help the family be able to afford food and shelter. Another thing I have read on other countries is the availability of clean water. I have never had the desire to visit these countries but it is something I'm happy that other people do mission work in these countries.
